Johnny's Got a Boom Boom and So Do We!

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)
You don’t have to have a 1940s wardrobe to achieve a retro look. Simple styling can give any outift a pin-up twist, and Irish rockabilly babe Imelda May's signature victory rolls are the perfect way to add vintage flair to your hair.

From 1940s starlets to today’s superstars, the victory roll is still as fabulous now as it ever was and the best thing is that it suits all shapes sizes!
The trend started in world war two, hence the “victory” name and although first popular with working women, the wartime style soon made its way to the Hollywood stars.

There are plenty of step by step tutorials online and it’s easy to master the technique. I prefer pictures rather than YouTube videos so check out pinterest for a variety of guides. Once you have it do wn, you can play around with them and get creative and choose what type of victory roll suits you.
You don't want to look like you're in fancy dress.
Unless you ARE in fancy dress like Barry.
To really rock your inner rockabilly, team your victory rolls with a pencil skirt and top combo or a mid length body con dress like the one I'm wearing above from Retro in Dublin. It’s important not to look like you’re in fancy dress so remember to keep it subtle to avoid people asking you if you’re in a doo woop group.

So get out there with your victory rolls and show the world that it’s not just Johnny that’s got a boom boom!

Grey.. not just for The Girl from Tomorrow

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)
Grey Goose, Grey's Anatomy, there's even 50 shades of it! Grey is everywhere and more importantly it is one of the key colours for Autumn Winter 14 and with a pop of colour sprinkled thoughout, soon our grey skies will be welcomed with open arms!
I used to think that grey was too minimalist, plain and frankly a bit "girl from tomorrow" but the new grey luxury knits on the high street are opulent and glam so you can rest assured you won't need to bring your spaceship.
Oasis grey knits and skirts, AW14
For the Christmas season, embrace a bit of sparkle with this metallic grey sweatshirt from Warehouse.
Warehouse metallic jumper, AW14, E55

Don't be afraid of grey on grey, even if you are pale, these luxury materials will make you look snug not pasty. Perhaps have the bronzer on standby... just in case.

These grey throw over cardys from Boohoo (below) and Warehouse(above) are perfect for being cosy and comfortable for when it's just not cold enough for the big Winter coat.

So although there might not be 50 shades of it, there are plenty of greys to get into this Autumn Winter so get on to the high street and bag yourself a winter knit those grey clouds are well on their way....

Get Shorty!

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)

Shorts have always been one of those wardrobe worries for curvy girls. Since my last post on shorts, I get the feeling that while a lot of us will wear them with black tights in the winter months, we’re less likely to get shorty while the sun shines. So it’s time to get inspired from some of the best ways to wear shorts this summer, no matter how much junk in our trunk!

Denims
Asos Curve, Denim Shorts and Long Sunflower Tee
Denim shorts can be fairly snug around the middle area and in the sunny weather you won’t have your sucky in black tights to hold you in. So, if you are feeling self conscious about your tum and bum, pair your shorts with a top that covers your hang up areas and you won’t give it a second thought! Ah the long top! The curvy girl’s best friend!

Prints
Oasis, Mollie Loves Collection, €40
Printed shorts are still on the high street and let’s hope they’re here to stay ‘coz they are fab! A long top will still be nice with prints, but to really show off your fab printed shorts, a tucked in fitted jersey tee will accentuate your waist and show off all your curves in the right places!
Forever 21 Polka Prints
Just to look at, they're no longer in stock! :(
These polka shorts from New Look will substitute! €17.99

Culottes
Culottes in Coral, New Look, €22.99
I admit, I was, and still am a bit, sceptical of culottes! I am far too short to pull them off, but if you have long legs, a pair of culottes are comfy, flowy and still mega on trend, so definitely worth a try on, especially the pair above for a bargain at 22.99!

Flippy
Littlewoods Flippy Shorts from South, €22
If you’re going more beach bar than cocktail bar, get yourself a hundred pairs of “flippy” shorts. Flippy shorts are the latest craze in the shorts community, they are baggy and free flowing like culottes but they are short like regular shorts! Hurray! They are perfect for holiers and can be dressed up with heels and a fancy top for back home.
Top Tips For Shorts Ready Legs
  •  If you don’t like pale legs, throw on a bit of fake tan to take the Irish glow away!
  •  If conscious of your legs in shorts, wear them with a pair of skin coloured tights to get you started.
  • Short shorts might chafe the tops of your thighs so moisturise them before wearing or go for a pair of flippy shorts/culottes that will cover your thighs.

G’wan get those legs out and Get Shorty!

Some Things Are Better in Yellow....

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)
Sunshine, buttercups, rubberducks, Gordon’s Dry Gin - some things are just perfect in yellow, and this Easter why not embrace the colour of the season and brighten up your wardrobe this long weekend.
Yellow even gets the Royal Approval!
Yellow is one of those colours that is perfect on all complexions. Blondes, brunettes, red-heads, it suits us all. The only thing to watch out for is to make sure your choice of yellow contrasts to your skin tone or you will look like a simpson! Those with naturally dark skin tones are lucky rubberducks, as yellow is born to suit you. For pale skin tones,  stay away from “baby yellow” as it will blend into your skin tone and wash you out, bolder yellows are for you.
Skater dress, Warehouse, £70
Jump right in with this bold yellow dress from Warehouse. It is skater style so will suit all shapes. (Attention plus-sizers Warehouse only stock to a UK16)
Shabby Apple Summer Wind Dress, $82
Remembering last week’s love of retro, this classic yellow dress is from US online retailer Shabby Apple. If in Europe, shipping from the US will hike up the price â€" but well worth it to get this fab Mad Men look.
Yellow Geo Print Shirt Dress, Littlewoods, €62
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to mix up your yellows with some print, this Coleen Rooney geo print from Littlewoods is the one for you. I have this dress and it’s lovely, get it!
BARGAIN ALERT! Skater Skirt, €16, Boohoo.com
Play it safe with just a hint of yellow, this bohoo plus skater skirt is my bargain of the week and will do you all through the summer.

So instead of spending your paycheck on Easter Eggs this weekend, treat yourself to a wearable treat and say hello to yellow!

Happy Easter!

Orange is The New Black?

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)
So my new obsession is Orange Is The New Black. Hello Netflix, goodbye life! As delirium was starting to set in during a marathon viewing, I started to think, maybe orange really is the new black? When you think about it, orange looks great on everyone, so with the sun shining out there, it’s a perfect time to put it to the test.

Asos Curve, €77.46
This dress from Asos Curve is the perfect shade of orange, its bright but subtle and the lace breaks up the block colour perfectly!
River Island, €10
River Island, €47
Orange and white is a perfect combo and with this midi skirt and crop top from River Island, you'll be rocking those prison colours in serious style. Remember, don't be afraid of the crop top, with the right skirt you will only expose a tiny part of your waist so you'll achieve the look without having to bare all.
Boohoo.com, €28
For just a pop of orange this  kimono from Boohoo Plus will jazzy up a once boring jeans and t shirt outfit.

Finally, go all out in a full length orange maxi.

Oasis, €33
So whether you're Team Alex or Team Piper, get your orange on in time for the next series, go on it would be criminal not to!

For Tux Sake!

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)

“Barbies” and “Slutty Nurses” are usually the dreaded dress code when it comes to hen parties. So it took me by surprise when my latest hen party invite said “tuxedo”. Firstly I rejoiced that I could leave the pink sequins area of my closet behind, but then I had some reservations…. How can a girl with curves pull off the most masculine look in fashion history?

It was time to get creative and start with some inspiration…..
Old School?
40s style Nigella?
Buttoned down shirt?
Monochrome Jumpsuit?
Full Suit?
My big boobs ruled out the classic shirt and bowtie look straight away. A buttoned up shirt would add on unnecessary pounds and leaving it open seemed slightly too risque for my DD’s… even for a hen night! My friend Erin pulled off the shirt and tie look perfectly, her long body and slim figure was the perfect combo and it looked great!
Erin and Leo ricking the tux look!
My sister Nessa went for the button down shirt, and with her humble sized boobs, she was able to look sexy, not slutty!

I eventually decided that a black jumpsuit would be the perfect take on the classic androgynous look. Teamed with the perfect bowtie accessory, pictured below, from Fabricate Designs, and Mac's Morange lippy, I was tux’ed up in no time while still feeling comfortable and glam.
When I saw all 20 of the hens, I soon learned that no matter what shape or size, whatever way you interpret “tuxedo”, or indeed any dress code, the main thing is to feel comfortable and glamorous and above all, ready to hit the town, which we did…

Bikini Bridge is falling down.. falling down falling down…

HTML email (dzzfashion.blogspot.com)
I recently went to a Bokwa class in Dublin 8. For anyone who is not familiar with Bokwa, think Zumba mixed with step aerobics but sweatier!

HILARIOUS!
Both before and after each class, the Bokwa girls share positive and fun fitness messages on facebook to both encourage and congratulate you on your workout.
I hear what your saying, what kind of cult have you joined Kate?! I thought the same, but wait…..! They never mention size or weight loss but rather focus on the health and fun aspects of getting exercise. In a world full of “thigh gaps” and “bikini bridges” its easy to forget that working out to house music with a room full of sweaty people trying to dance, is actually hilarious!
Their outlook got me thinking â€" it’s high time to replace “thinspiration” with positive messages like “healthy is the new skinny” and “I work out because I love my body, not because I hate it”. There is a fitness party in town, and this time, everyone’s invited!
Whether you’re burning calories or just burning a hole in the dance floor, take some of these vibes with you for your next workout and remember to be body positive, the bikini bridge is well and truly falling down..!
